When Rick was still young, the family relocated to the Bahamas, where his father was originally born. Raised in Nassau, Rick joined the high school basketball team as a young boy and continued to play high school basketball in Warsaw, Indiana. After graduating, Rick attended the University of North Carolina and led the team to the NCAA Final Four in 1991.
